Hürzeler is a member of the Bayern Munich Junior Team and has been a frequent starter over the past year with their U-19 team. At the young age of 17, he has also played with the U-23's as the youngest player on the team. Fabian has also played with the reserve team on FC Bayern Munich II. Towards the end of the 2010 Bundesliga season, Fabian practiced with the first team.[2]
According to Yanks Abroad, Hürzeler has been promoted to the U-23 full time. According to YA "Hürzeler is still on a youth contract, but his early promotion bodes well for his bid to earn a professional contract from the German giants." [3]
Born in Texas, Hürzeler has spent almost his whole life living in Munich, Germany and holds dual citizenship. He represented Germany at both the U-16 and U-17 levels, captaining the U-17 team on several occasions.
After being recruited by then United States U-20 Thomas Rongen Hürzeler originally committed to playing with the United States. According to Yanks Abroad, "Hurzeler is still on the books as a German player as he represented their U-17 national team in official European qualifying games. Since he did not play for the US U-20 team at qualifying, he still has yet to file for his one-time change of association with FIFA. He will still need to do this prior to representing the US or US youth teams in official events." [4] Hürzeler has revised that decision since and made his debut for the German U-19 national team against Egypt in November 2011.
